May 29, 1975 — Europe decided to aim for the stars
And founded ESA: European Space Agency.
While some were trying to figure out what exactly ABBA meant by “Mamma Mia,” a handful of Europeans in lab coats and interstellar dreams got together and said:
“Let’s stop competing and start launching rockets together.”
Yeah, back in 1975, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, and their squad signed the treaty that kicked off ESA — kinda like the European Union for Space Nerds™, ready to explore the cosmos with style and distinct accents.
🌌 So why should you care, content creator, designer, or educator?
Because thanks to this initiative:
-
Technologies emerged that later became GPS, satellite cameras, weather on your app, and even that weird 3D effect on Google Earth.
-
ESA helped boost the use of open data for education, digital art, and scientific storytelling.
-
And it even inspires transnational educational projects, where science meets sci-fi and turns into animation with a European budget.
👴 Oscar, sipping his intergalactic tea:
“And while they were signing historic treaties, you… were probably not even born yet. The irony of time, that old cosmic comedian.”
🐲 Barkley, making a paper rocket with space glitter:
“If you could create your own space mission with a creative impact, what would it be called? And what would it take to space? A comic book? A course? A podcast about influencer aliens?”
